Biography

Alfred De Breanski Jnr – 1877 – 1957

Alfred Fontville de Breanski Jr. (28 August 1877 – 17 April 1957) was a British painter born in London into a family of painters, he was the eldest  son of Alfred De Breanski Snr, the highly regarded Victorian landscape painter, and the Welsh painter Annie Roberts.

He learnt his craft from his parents and also at St. Martin’s School of Art. The artist later travelled to France in the 1890s and was exposed to the Belle Époque style, and made the acquaintance of James Abbott McNeil Whistler His artworks began to show the influence of Impressionism after his return to Britain, with prominent brushstrokes and great attention paid to light.

His paintings were exhibited at the Royal Academy and at the Royal Society of British Artists. He generally painted natural landscape and rustic scenes, showing the influence of Impressionism in his later life.

He died at Tonbridge, Kent, in 1957
